A history at the polls

Election

I grew up in a conservative, Bible believing family. Love of God, country, and family shaped my childhood, and helped shape me into who I am today. I remember my parents taking my sister and I along with them to caucus when we were young. As we grew, we were taught the importance of the free election system that America is founded on. I clearly remember going into the tiny booths with either of my parents, each of them patiently explaining the process to me.

As a teen, I would accompany them to their rural polling location. While I was too old to enter the booth with them, I remember talking with the workers, and wondering how they came to be in that position.

Many years later, I was a full time stay-at-home mom to my four kids when I first worked at the polls. The combination of my upbringing and the opportunity to serve my community were a great fit for me. Additionally, with the small compensation that polling officials receive for their time, I was able to contribute to Christmas presents for our kids. It was a win-win for me.

As time moved on, I continued to serve, the office moved from the traditional book listings to the computer system that is used today. At the beginning of my third year, I was asked if I would serve as the precinct captain, a position that I have maintained since.

I am running for the office of Muscatine County Auditor to continue to serve our community in an even larger capacity. I originally registered as a member of the Republincan party due to my upbringing, though as I have grown throughout the years, I recognize that I am actually an Independent. However, to retain my ability to work at the polls, I have kept my original party affiliation.

I am running as an Independent as I believe that the office that oversees the elections on a local level should be as non partisan as possible.

As an Independent, I am running without the financial backing of either major party.  As a grassroots campaign, it is up to individuals, friends, family, and community members to help spread the word.
